The current reading and math series being used in K-5 in Lake Havasu Unified School District is Houghton Mifflin. Click the link above and you will connect to a website that provides resources for families to support instruction at home.

 

Many of the books in Smoketree’s school library have blue labels on their spine. Accelerated Reader (AR) quizzes are available on the computer for each of these books. During library class, each child chooses a book in his or her reading range. When a child is finished reading a book, he or she takes a short quiz on the computer so we can check his or her comprehension. The top AR point earners are awarded beanie baby tickets and can choose a special stuffed animal each quarter. Click the link above to view the list of books and levels on AR! This will help you be able to pick books that are in your child’s reading range when you take him or her to the public library. (Your child should know his or her reading range; if not you can check with your child’s teacher.)

Each teacher is responsible to teach the AZ State Standards to the students with rigor. Children in grades 3-5 are tested on the standards when they take the AIMS test in April.
