CLUBS & ACTIVITIES

Nautilus offers the following clubs and activities for students. All are eligible for tax credit dollars except Parks and Recreation after-school programs.

ALGEBRAINIAC MATH CLUB

Algebrainiacs helps 6th graders improve their math skills. Students qualify for and are recommended for the club based on their 5th grade AIMS scores. The club meets on Fridays from 2:30 to 3:30. Contact Mr. Olsen. lolsen@havasu.k12.az.us

ART CLUB

Art Club was offered only first semester this school year (Second semester in 2012-13.) It is for students who demonstrate ability, creativity, and task commitment to the Visual Arts. Art Club will be offered to fifth and sixth grade students on Tuesdays from 2:30-3:30. Club members learn the history and techniques of Art, they learn to express themselves and communicate through their work, and they learn to value their skills. During art club we will dig deeper in exploring with more challenging tools and materials. There will also be a critique component to the Art Club where students have the opportunity to show & tell about their artwork, engage in dialogue with peers about their own and others artworks, and develop an artist statement to describe their work.

HABITAT CLUB
Nautilus Student Council Habitat Club helps maintain the Nautilus Secret Garden.

HOMEWORK CLUB

The Homework Club is for students who need some quiet study time to complete homework or review their lessons. A staff member will be available to help where needed. This club meets before school, Monday through Friday, from 7:15 to 7:55. For more information, contact Mrs. Bumpas.

NATIONAL ELEMENTARY HONOR SOCIETY

NEHS is designed to recognize the accomplishments and academic achievements of the whole child—including the ability to be a responsible student at school, at home and in the community. The program is also designed to foster leadership development and encourage the participation of elementary-aged students in service activities. NEHS is open to students in grades 4, 5, and 6 who maintain a 3.5 grade point average, and have an S in citizenship. Students interested in NEHS complete an application after the first quarter. The application is reviewed by a panel of teachers and scored using a rubric. The Nautilus NEHS has 30 members. NEHS meets on Monday afternoons from 2:30-3:30 in Mrs. Olsen’s room. Our first meeting for returning members will be Monday, August 22. New members will be inducted in October.

NUTRITION CLUB

The Nutrition Club meets during second semester. The first meeting this school year will be Tuesday, January 17, from 7 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. After that, regular meetings will be at the same time, each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Contact Mrs. Fulton ().

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

This will be offered during second semester this school year (First semester in the 2012-13 school year.). Contact Mr. Wayman .

RENAISSANCE

The Renaissance program is a nationwide program to motivate and encourage students and staff. It's about creating a way to recognize and reward everyone in the building. It's about celebrating academic achievements, outstanding attendance, and good deeds. It's about being proud of academic success. It's about school spirit and showing enthusiasm for the wonderful people in our school. It's about getting everyone involved: students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents and local businesses.

Nautilus Elementary has chosen this program to recognize students who maintain above average academics and attendance as well as demonstrate good behaviors at school.

Requirements:

  • A, B, and C (S and N) on report card NO D or F (U).
  • No more than 4 absences (2 tardies, 2 early outs, or 1 of each equals 1 absence).
  • No office referral, time outs, or behavior support calls.

STUDENT COUNCIL
Nautilus Student Council The Nautilus Student Council.

The Nautilus student council works to improve the school experience for all Nautilus students.

  • Student council helps maintain a clean and safe environment by picking up trash, sweeping rocks and sand, planting trees/flowers, having cleaning days, and reminding students of the school rules.
  • Student council facilitates FUN by encouraging Nautilus T-shirt day every Friday, planning spirit days once per month, maintaining recess equipment, raise money through fundraisers to help our school, and making special events happen throughout the year.
  • Student council demonstrates and encourages Character Education throughout Nautilus by putting on plays, educating buddy classes, and Random Acts of Kindness (R.A.K.).

Student council is open to 4th and 5th grade students who want to make a difference. The current student council sponsors are Mrs. Williams () and Mrs. Shettko ().

TUTORING

The tutoring program offers help in specific problem areas and in greater depth than the Homework Club. The tutors are certified teachers with students from Lake Havasu High School assisting. Tutoring help is available after school, each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 2:30 to 3:30. For more information, contact Mrs. Neece. ()
