Career and Technical Education Coordinator, Lake Havasu High School

Another acronym? Yes. CTE (Career & Technical Education) replaces "Vocational" in the current state model for occupational training. Several years ago, students were either "college bound" or they received "vocational" training. This is no longer the case. We expect preparation for both. I, not unlike many of you, used my CTE training to pay for my college expenses. My motto... EVERYONE IS WORKFORCE BOUND.

I would like to share a new high school viewpoint... What’s Next? In the past, receiving the diploma has been the goal. As the excitement of graduation nears, approaches, and disappears, parents are left wondering when their beloved is moving out, when are they taking their "stuff", how are they going to pay for anything. We told students that the "real world" is near & they should be better prepared. We approached this destination as if the sky opened up and descended a car, money, a secretary, a place to live, etc. Again, this is no longer the case. We approach students entering high school with our "What’s Next?" question. LHHS realizes that students enter the "real world" when they enter the workforce (typically at age 16 or 17).

LHUSD is committed to your student’s successful quest for "What’s Next?". LHHS offers courses & programs in the following four pathways for LHHS students:

  1. BUSINESS SYSTEMS
  2. ENGINEERING & INFO TECH
  3. HEALTH SERVICES
  4. SOCIAL & HUMAN SERVICES

These areas align with the structure of most post-secondary environments.

Our high school is very privileged to operate a Career Center. This center offers many services to students, parents, and the public. Students can locate jobs, research post secondary training, participate in Job Shadowing opportunities, interact with military recruiters and listen to presentations from around the country to help students determine "What’s Next?".

EVERYONE IS WORKFORCE BOUND!
