LHUSD Wellness Policy Session 3 of 3 Michelle Gough

The Healthy Hunger-Free kids Act of 2010 recognized the important role schools

plays in ensuring children's wellness. This act required local educational agencies

participating in the national school lunch and breakfast programs to establish a local

wellness policy. In this course, teachers will learn the key elements of the LHUSD

Wellness Policy, the stakeholders involved, where parents can access this

information, and how LHUSD evaluates and measures the implementation of the

local wellness policy. This is an opportunity for teachers to learn the extent of

compliance, the description of key elements such as nutrition education and

promotion, and physical education and activity. Teachers will share ways to

celebrate with non-food incentives and discipline while promoting physical wellness.
