K-12 Foundation leads drive for school supplies

Lake Havasu City’s retail stores are packed to the rafters with school supplies.

That’s good news for parents who want a good selection from which to choose when outfitting their students. The first day for pupils in the Lake Havasu Unified School District is Aug. 3.

Unfortunately, not all households have the means to buy school supplies. To lend them a helping hand, the K-12 Foundation is collecting classroom supplies to fill in the gaps. Monica Hall, a member of the foundation, said collection boxes for the donations have been set up around Havasu.

“We’ll be grateful for anything that someone wants to donate,” Hall said. “Binders, folders, paper, crayons, markers – you name it, we’ll be glad to receive it. We need supplies for students in all age groups, from kindergarten through high school.”

All collected supplies will be distributed Sept. 5 when the K-12 Foundation hosts its annual Teacher Appreciation Night. Typically, 200 school district teachers attend the event, Hall noted. This year, the educators will be free to choose needed supplies from the donated collection. That means all district schools will benefit from the foundation’s effort.

Collection boxes have been established at the following locations:

• Mohave State Bank, 1771 McCulloch Blvd. or 1021 McCulloch Blvd.

• Wells Fargo Bank, 1601 McCulloch Blvd.

• Horizon Community Bank, 225 N. Lake Havasu Ave.

•College Street Brewery, 1940 College Dr.

• Mudshark Brewery, 210 Swanson Ave.

• Mudshark Brewery and Public House, 1095 Aviation Dr.

• Mudshark Pizza & Pasta, 1625 Mesquite Ave.
