Thunderbolt recognized as a showcase school

Thunderbolt Middle School in Lake Havasu City joins a list of distinguished schools that were recently recognized as a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School.

The announcement was made by Diana Asseier, superintendent of the Lake Havasu Unified School District.

Thunderbolt is one of only eight schools recognized in Arizona.

The award came from the Flippen Group, a 25-year-old company that trains and administers the Capturing Kids’ Hearts program to schools across the nation. The Flippen Group’s methods have been proven to improve a school’s performance through decreased discipline referrals, increased student achievement, increased attendance rates and increased teacher satisfaction.

Thunderbolt was measured during site visits, online surveys of staff involvement levels and student surveys to measure connectedness to school.

“The systems that create a positive culture and safe learning spaces for our students do not happen by accident,” Asseier said in an email. “This took the continued work of the staff to integrate positive practices intentionally on behalf of our students. Thunderbolt has received this honor on several occasions, and each year it is awarded based on the single year of achievement. This is the 2018-19 year’s performance, evidence that the staff and principal have created systems that are ongoing for student success.”
