Dear Oro Grande Parents/Guardians:

We recently received our A – F Accountability Profile from the Arizona Department of Education. Below is the information regarding our Letter Grade that have been assigned by the state of Arizona.  These grades are based on the 2016-17 school year AzMERIT assessments.

Oro Grande Elementary School has been assigned a C by the state. For our school, the score is based primarily on assessment results - up to 90% if the school has a high number of English learners. These new letter grades are based on the assessment of the more rigorous Arizona standards and will provide a new baseline for our school planning process.

Oro Grande staff, along with parents and community members have been able to reflect on our prior year as stakeholders, to challenge ourselves with not only making improvements on how to effect change in academics, but how to recognize any need for our district, our school site, in our craft as educators and our communication with our families and community. During the summer, our school site committee  conducted an Comprehensive Needs Assessment based on our test results, and through the process we found that we would like to focus on three needs that will aid in our growth and improvement. First, to continue to provide a safe, efficient and effective learning environment. Second, to intentionally plan our lessons to support every student meeting rigorous learning goals, including differentiating instruction. Lastly, to engage families in critical data-informed decisions that impact student learning.

We understand that Annual Test Scores are not the only indicator of school quality.  During the 2016/17 school year, we celebrated many successes.  Student attendance, positive behavior in our school, recognition of students who make the Honor Roll and Principals Honor Roll, and other celebrations where our families, students and staff work together and have fun together. Our staff will continue to be committed to ensuring that all of our students leave our school with not only the fundamental foundations to continue success in education beyond our walls, but to be a person who cares about the individual needs of others.

If you have further questions, I am happy to meet with you in person.   Please attend our next School Site Council meeting on November 30, 2017.  The topic for our agenda will include the first quarter data we have gathered.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.  I look forward to meeting with you, both to share our success and to hear your suggestions.
