Dear Jamaica Parents/Guardians:

We recently received our A – F Accountability Profile from the Arizona Department of Education.

Below is the information regarding our Letter Grade that has been assigned by the state of Arizona.  These grades are based on the 2016-17 school year AzMERIT assessments.

Jamaica: A-F Letter Grade = B

For our district, the score is based primarily on assessment results- up to 90% if the school has a high number of English learners. These new letter grades are based on the assessment of the more rigorous Arizona standards recently adopted and will provide a new baseline for our school planning process.

During the beginning of the year, our school conducted a Comprehensive Needs Assessment based on our test results and various other factors assessed by the state. Based on that needs assessment, a group of stakeholders (teachers, classified staff, parents, and community members) were built to represent our school as our Site Based Council. We then focused as a group to determine a needed action plan for our school to address the areas which we felt would most greatly impact our students achievement and our overall school improvement. That action plan was then forwarded to the district and the state.

If you have further questions, I am happy to meet with you in person.  Please attend our next School Site Council meeting on December 18th, 2017. The meeting will take place from 3-4pm in our library.  We will also send you more information about our upcoming “Family Advocacy Night” on November 8th from 5:00-6:30pm. Student Council will be hosting a spaghetti dinner to raise money for our school projects. During that time, we will take the opportunity with you to share our Site Based Integrated Action Plan and allow you some time to familiarize yourself with our many community partners we work with to support you.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.  I look forward to meeting with you, both to share our success and to hear your suggestions.
